Why don't you have a filter function?

The software was written for small businesses, and a filter function would consume resources for something that is already free. Every browser has a search function which can usually be accessed with Ctrl + F and that should work if you need to look for something already loaded on the page. You can also easily access all the employee documents from the employee profile.
